Virtual Reality and Representations of Suffering

Introduction

Representations of human suffering are easily accessed in today’s modern world with the rise of technology and global interconnectedness.

From viral news stories circulating on social media, to newspapers publishing graphic and violent photographs, human suffering is regularly documented, analyzed, viewed - and forgotten.

Introduction

Visuals of human suffering are all over.

Images of the world's displaced, stateless, starving, and suffering can be seen everywhere from popular journalism to TV news broadcasts, to when one browses the internet.

This can contribute to misrepresentations and stereotypes of vulnerable populations, like refugees.
